Notes
KGT 85: The closest equivalent to sweet is probably na'ran rur ("resembles a *naran*," a fruit whose juice is sometimes added to sauces as a contrast to the other flavors) ... Despite the general absence of sweet foods from their diet, Klingons tend to be quite enthusiastic about yuch (chocolate), at least in its purest forms. From Okrand to qe'San: "The closest Klingon's get to "sweet" is probably na'ran rur ("resembles a naran." a fruit whose juice is sometimes added to sauces as a contrast to the other flavours.) We therefore decided that a Klingon visiting Earth would need a way to refer to this thing called sugar i.e. we transliterated sugar as Su'ghar but for better understanding, as the word needed was for granulated (crystalised) sugar Su'ghar qutmey was used for "sugar (crystals)". This is where I put my head on the block: That's not to say its use may not creep into everyday speech at least on Earth. Humans as they often do may even shorten it to just Su'ghar especially if no longer in crystal form but no canon examples are known to supoort this. A Klingon may be more likely to say Su'ghar qutmey vIneHbe' "I do not want sugar (crystals)". I suppose if you came across two Klingons and one had not come across sugar the one who had might describe it as Su'ghar qutmey; na'ran rur "Sugar (crystals) as sweet as na'ran". SEE ALSO: HaQchor saccharin (n) wIb be sour (v) *wIbHa' or *wIbHa'moH are sometimes used on the List for "be sweet" or "sweeten" - though "un-sour" might be a better translation: e.g. adding Su'ghar qutmey, HaQchor, na'ran vIychorgh, etc. to your Dargh or qa'vIn.
